Dining vs Register

Clover ships two ordering apps that share one inventory. Pick the one that matches how orders happen on your floor; switching later is a settings change, not a rebuild.

Register

For counter service, quick service, cafés and retail. One screen: tabs down the side, items in a grid, the cart on the right. Fast for a line at the counter. Supports orders by name, saved orders, and simple tabs.

Dining

For table service. Adds a floor plan with tables, seats and sections; open tabs with pre-authorised cards; coursing and "fire" to send later courses to the kitchen when you want them; bill splitting by seat, item or amount; and tableside ordering and payment on a Flex. Requires the Restaurant plan.

Which one

  • Orders are taken at a counter and paid right away: Register.
  • Guests sit, order over time and pay at the end: Dining.
  • Both, such as a bar with food: Dining with quick-order mode for the bar.

The menu structure is the same in either app, which is why the menu build guide does not depend on this choice.
