Reset your terminal clock after the time change

Daylight saving time ended on Sunday, November 1, 2026, and clocks went back an hour. Some card terminals fix themselves. Others keep the old time until someone types in the new one. It takes about two minutes per terminal, and this is the page to do it from.

Do you need to do anything?

  • Clover, Exatouch and Valor PayTech: no. They set their own clocks over the internet.
  • First Data, Dejavoo, PAX and Verifone: yes. These terminals keep time on their own and need you to set the date and time by hand.

If you are not sure what you have, look at the name on the terminal or on the receipt it prints. Still not sure? Call or text us at 1-855-297-6722 and we will tell you in a minute.

Pick your terminal

  • First Data: a touchscreen terminal with a small settings icon in the top right corner.
  • Dejavoo: a Credit / Sale home screen and a Core Menu. There are two versions of the steps, depending on whether your terminal uses the green OK key or the F1 key.
  • PAX: an "Input Amount" home screen and a blue Menu button.
  • Verifone: a Sale / Refund / Void home screen and keys on the side of the screen labeled F1 through F4.

Before you start

  • Have the current date and time handy. Use Eastern Time, and read it off your phone, not off the terminal.
  • Use 24-hour time. Enter the time on a 24-hour clock, so 2:50 PM is 14:50:00 (145000 on terminals that do not take colons).
  • Pick a slow moment. You will be in the terminal's settings for a couple of minutes, so do it between customers.
  • Type the date you are setting, not the sample. The screens in our walkthroughs show old example dates. Yours should show today.

Why a wrong clock matters

A card terminal stamps every sale with its own clock. When that clock is an hour fast, a sale rung up at 11:30 PM shows up on your reports as 12:30 AM the next day. Receipts print the wrong time, and if your terminal is set to close its batch at a certain hour, it now closes an hour off from what you planned. None of this stops you from taking payments. It does make your end-of-day reports harder to trust and harder to match to your register.

Stuck, or the screens do not match?

Stop where you are and call or text us at 1-855-297-6722. We would rather talk you through it than have you guess at a menu. If the terminal asks for a password and the one in our guide does not work, that means someone changed it, and we can help you sort that out too.
